People Vs Profit - Million Dollar Traders - Episode 3

January 29th, 2009

The 3rd and final installment of the BBC2 mini-series ‘Million Dollar Traders’ aired on 27th January 2009.

Watch as 8 traders become 1 (some less acrimoniously than others) as Lex picks the winning trader. The series was a great experience to be part of and I’d like to thank all involved in the production from Century Films, Lex, the contestants and the BBC.

Hopefully there will be another series in the pipeline, I’ll keep you posted here on the Blog…

Hi Anton - I knew there was a North West accent in there somewhere! I’m from Birkenhead. I have to say I thought you came across really well on MDT’s firm yet fair..and knowledgable too. Nice One…

Erm, you mention that a second series may be in the offing? I’d be WELL interested in having a go myself…any pointers on how to go about becoming a candidate for the next series?

    Ta very much

I liked Emile to start with but as the programme went on he definitely started to show he thought he was superior to the others. I think he realised he wouldn’t win then looked for any reason to leave.

Also, Sam saying he found the ‘let’s make some money’ attitude distasteful……what was that all about?!?!?!?!

  3. Robert C says:

Great show, once again another fantastic episode.

All in, i’m glad those people walked out, they showed how immature, and indeed poor they were to the group. Using the girl as an excuse to walk out was silly, it was clear that it was just an excuse for their shortcomings with their portfolio’s. As someone who would love to get into the stocks and banking business I would give anything for that kind of opportunity.

Well done to the three who finished, they did very well.

Here’s hoping to another series, and good luck with all of your business ventures in the current economic climate, it must be incredibly tough.

    Robert

P.s. Nice to read you went to Manchester University, I am there studying in the first year right now. You should come back some time :)!

Was the way they physically made their trades in the program realistic?
I mean phoning up a broker and not clicking “buy” or “sell” on a web page?
And what was that paper in machine - ching! after every transaction?

  5. Michael says:

I echo what the others have said, it was a good show and personally for me was a good insight into the world of trading. I must admit i was suprised to see the lack of stock market theories being applied, i’ve just recently graduted from an MBA where they drilled home the use of CAPM, portfolio theory etc.

Like wise, if the 2nd series is due to be launched i’d be keen to apply. I’m 26, MBA grad currently working in Cheshire.

Looking forward in seeing your new venture (Hablib) also.

    Regards,

    Michael

  6. Tony says:

it appears to me that million dollar traders have unsuccessfully copied richard dennis’s turtle traders in that none of them made any large sums of cash…

  7. Tan Tran says:

Series 1 was thoroughly enjoyable. Looking forward to Series 2.

The very best of luck with Hablib.com and just to add, as a professional involved in property finance, I agree the UK property market need serious changes. You have my support on this.

    Keep up the good work!

Good luck with the new venture.

Great Show, I hope there will be a second season with a different bunch of characters trying to succeed. I was reminded of the movie “Glengarry Glen Ross”. The retired programmer reminded me of Jack Lemmon’s character in this movie.

    Hi Anton,
Final instalment of MDT was broadcasted in Sydney last week and I’d like to voice my disappointment, I mean… 3 episodes?? This action-packed program is definitely worth more than 3 weeks of suspense and entertainment :O)! Having said that, the whole project team should be very proud, Mr Lex Van Dam and yourself made The Apprentice look like a soapie show in comparison! The project was wonderfully enjoyable and genuine. I can only expect 2nd season to be better.

Also it would be greaat if you could answer a question I have since episode 1… What made you take on the project? You have an impressive tertiary background, what’s your motivation to demonstrate that it takes someone with less education to succeed in trading?

I’m a Commerce student and you have become an inspiration and role model, thank you!

    Hi everyone

Does anyone know where to get a copy of MDT series? I loved that show, was really useful for those starting in the city I think.

Also, is Hablib just for vendors? I am a first time buyer looking for 2-bed flat in North/East London.

    Thanks v.much

  14. David Hollins says:

As most shows seem to need a celeb version at some stage, I suppose this lot might be possible for a future MDT

Could you cope with Ross, Anton?

  15. antonkreil says:

Wossy? ‘av him for breakfast mate!

  16. Katie says:

  17. Prof says:

As someone who trades my own account and would love to give it a go professionally, I must say I found the whole series very compelling to watch.

Just a bit bummed that I can’t find the series anywhere!

  18. Terence says:

Excellent lessons gleaned from the series. Try torrent if you want to download the whole series.
